ID requirements

The Anti-Money Laundering and Countering Financing of Terrorism Act requires New Zealand to meet international standards of customer identity verification.

Before we can assist you with an investment or insurance policy we are required by law to view originals of or receive certified copies of:

The table below outlines the personal identification and address confirmation documents that we require in order to process your application. It is important to note that you must have signed your New Zealand passport for us to be able to accept it.

Please remember that your identity documents must be certified. If you make an appointment and bring the originals into our office we can certify them but we must see you in person.

A Certified Copy of Identification
which must be current.

  PLUS Address Verification
(dated within last 3 months) showing your name and address
New Zealand Passport/Citizenship Document (signed); or
Bank statement; or
New Zealand Driver Licence; or
Utility bill (i.e Sky, electricity, water); or
Firearms Licence (signed)
A New Zealand Government department letter (i.e IRD)
If you are not a New Zealand citizen, you need to provide the identification documents stated above, as well as proof of your Resident status. If you cannot provide the above there are other documents we may legally accept, please ask. If you cannot provide the above there are other ways we may verify your address, please ask.
If investing on behalf of a minor we require certified copies of the birth certificate of the minor and identity documentation for the guardians as per above.

Certification of your personal identity documents must be done by one of the following:
  • Lawyer
  • Registered medical doctor
  • Public notary
  • Commonwealth representative
  • Chartered accountant
  • Registered teacher
  • Member of parliament
  • Minister of religion
  • Justice of the Peace
  • An employee of the police who holds the office of constable
  • New Zealand honorary consul
  • Other persons as may from time to time be authorised by regulation,
In addition, the individual certifying your documents must not be:
  • Yourself
  • Under 16 years of age
  • Your spouse or partner
  • Related to you (e.g. your parent, child, brother, sister, aunt, uncle or cousin)
  • A person who lives at the same address as you

The individual certifying copies of the documents must sight the original document and write the following on the photocopy:

Certification must have been carried out within the past three months.
